Pelagians on Twitter, Man-Centered God at Bethel, Presuppositions in Ehrman, Open Phones

Started off looking at a Pelagian on Twitter by the name of “C G.”  Then played an entire ten minute long clip from a guy on the “Dead Raising Team” from Bethel Church in Redding about how we should believe in the goodness of people (please read Romans 3:10-18 over three times while pondering that concept).  Before going to the phones for the last part of the program we looked at how presuppositions impact arguments, such as those made by Bart Ehrman about the birth narratives in Matthew and Luke.

LGBTQ Tweets, Ehrman Dividing Mark and John, Open Phones

Talked a little bit about a Twitter exchange regarding LGBTQ books, and then moved to a rather full refutation of Bart Ehrman’s comments on Mark vs. John on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion (Nisan 13 vs. Nisan 14), and then went to open phones with once again a wide variety of calls and topics.  Always interesting questions from the Dividing Line audience!  Closed with a reminder that we need your help to underwrite our upcoming trip to South Africa, Zambia, and the UK (in May).  You can help support us in that matter here.

Humanzees, Jordan Peterson, Parallel Gospels, and Open Phones

Spent most of the start of the show looking at a video from Jordan Peterson and interacting with the concepts of suffering and human purpose in his lectures.  Dr. Peterson has been great in exposing the fundamental flaws and simple irrationality of many of the left’s pet projects today, and we can be very thankful for that, but we cannot use that as an excuse to not point out that the best a Jungian evolutionary worldview can produce (consistently) is a form of Pelagianism, a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” moralism that lacks the key ingredients provided by full gospel proclamation.  We then moved on a brief discussion about Ehrman and historical standards, and then took a number of calls on a variety of topics.

Series to Begin Next Week, the Ebionites, and Open Phones on a 95 Minute Dividing Line

Covered about half an hour of “topics” from the Ebionites to current discussions of “insanity,” and then we went to open phones with lots of questions on a wide variety of topics including the Trinity, Oneness, and two calls on textual variants (Romans 5:1, John 10:29).

Vines/McDowell Dialogue, Encouraging Podcast, Calls on Today’s Jumbo Edition of the Dividing Line

Started off with a few miscellaneous items, including a brief review of the Matthew Vines/Sean McDowell dialogue from a few weeks ago, a little reading on Basilides the early church gnostic heretic and his views, and then I played some portions from the Ex Nihilo podcast that the Hardings posted as an encouragement to me (which was much appreciated).  Then we went to the phones for a wide variety of calls on numerous topics including one call from a former Mormon about the Garden of Gethsemane, one on “proportional atonement,” and one on Islam and the New Testament.  At the beginning and end of the program I mentioned my upcoming trip via London (or Scotland) to South Africa and Zambia, and our need to raise funds to cover the costs. You can help us by donating to the travel fund here.
