Denying vs. Confessing, Canon Discussion at G3, the Lollards

Sorry, folks, despite my best efforts I got what’s going around (not the flu, thankfully, but a bad respiratory infection), so I will be talking slowly today—an easy show for you to use your 2x speed on when listening!  Looked at 1 John 2:18-23 exegetically (and textually), then talked a bit about the session at G3 with Michael Kruger on canon issues, and finished up returning to church history and talking about the Lollards in England.  Hope you find it helpful!

Remembering RC, Then, Refuting More Textual Traditionalism

Started off playing a half hour interview from 2008 with RC Sproul remembering and celebrating a wonderful gift to Christ’s church.  Then we completely shifted gears and got into the issues raised by A James White Christmas Carol, an animation movie about Luke 23:34 that is desperately dishonest at its base (regarding the false accusation of my attacking David Wood, for example) and thoroughly indefensible in its presuppositions.  Be warned!  This is a jumbo-mega, almost 2.5 hours in length!  Sorry about that!  But lots of textual and historical discussion included.

Unanticipated Discussion of CBGM and P45, Then Beginning of a Review of Ijaz Ahmad’s Video on OT/NT “Corruption”

I started off thinking I’d mainly respond to Ijaz Ahmad’s video today and then open the phones, but alas, I mentioned a little bit about the Coherence Based Genealogical Method in regards to some volumes of the TuT series (Text und Textwert) that had just arrived today and people started asking questions and I ended up saying a LOT more than I had planned about the topic!  I finally did get to Ijaz’s presentation, but only got 4 and a half minutes in before had to wrap up.  A bit technical today, but that’s why some of you listen to the program, right?

Almost Mega Length DL with Five Major Topics

Started off with the MSM’s hyping of the First Apocalypse of James, a well known gnostic work from, at the earliest, the late second century, most probably the third.  Had a “Story Time with Uncle Jimmy” where I read the entirety of the work so you can respond to co-workers or others who raise the topic.  Then we discussed Bill Mounce’s comments on “whoever” at John 3:16. Followed that with a quick discussion of Francois Veron and the use of skepticism by Rome in the Counter-Reformation. Then I read a Muslim article about today’s Supreme Court case about religious freedom and what the Qur’an honestly teaches about homosexuality (and the foolishness of liberal Muslim groups who have opposed religious liberty).  Finally we spent some time reading and responding to Dr. Sonny Hernandez’s response to me on Arminianism and the Gospel, and frankly, I still haven’t a clue exactly where he is coming from.  But, we gave it the old college try!  Nearly 110 minutes for the program today.

South African Controversy and Debate, and More Reformation History

Took a look at a little controversy down in South Africa about a debate between Christian Jonathan McLatchie and Yusuf Ismail on whether the Trinity is consistent with the Old Testament revelation of God’s nature.  Played a few minutes of Yusuf’s rebuttal and engaged his arguments.  Then in the last fifteen minutes of the program we went back to our Reformation history series, looking at necessary pre-Reformation movements and developments.
