Open Borders Means Anarchy and Lawlessness, Then Open Phones on Deep Theological Topics

While we were getting folks in line for open phones I commented for about ten minutes on the simple reality that “open borders” equals anarchy and the end of law, a concept that should not be attractive to any Christian whatsoever. Then we went to the phones to discuss a bunch of deep Trinitarian issues, as well as Eastern Orthodoxy, Roman Catholicism, Islam (and Aisha!), Mormonism and textual criticism.  Great calls folks!

Isaiah 44:24 and the LDS View of God, More on the Book of Abraham, Open Phones

Started off discussing Isaiah 44:24 and its relevance to Mormonism, then transitioned into a bit more on the Book of Abraham and its significance as a clear indication of Smith’s errors.  Then we looked at a few tweets from Rachel Held Evans and Kyle J. Howard in light of the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy.  Then we went to the phones and took about six calls on a wide variety of topics.

Sam Harris and Bart Ehrman Chat Christianity, Open Phones on Many Topics

Spent a little time on some comments made in an interview between Sam Harris and Bart Ehrman at the beginning of the program (after just a few minutes noting Jim Wallis’ extolling of James Cone) and then moved to calls. Spent way too much time trying to deal with a super technical call (I went back to it later when I was able to grab the relevant commentary from my system), and had to move past another call simply because I have not read the book being discussed and have stayed out of one particular theological controversy (shocking!).  Managed to get through the others though!  90 minutes.

Pelagians on Twitter, Man-Centered God at Bethel, Presuppositions in Ehrman, Open Phones

Started off looking at a Pelagian on Twitter by the name of “C G.”  Then played an entire ten minute long clip from a guy on the “Dead Raising Team” from Bethel Church in Redding about how we should believe in the goodness of people (please read Romans 3:10-18 over three times while pondering that concept).  Before going to the phones for the last part of the program we looked at how presuppositions impact arguments, such as those made by Bart Ehrman about the birth narratives in Matthew and Luke.

LGBTQ Tweets, Ehrman Dividing Mark and John, Open Phones

Talked a little bit about a Twitter exchange regarding LGBTQ books, and then moved to a rather full refutation of Bart Ehrman’s comments on Mark vs. John on the day of Jesus’ crucifixion (Nisan 13 vs. Nisan 14), and then went to open phones with once again a wide variety of calls and topics.  Always interesting questions from the Dividing Line audience!  Closed with a reminder that we need your help to underwrite our upcoming trip to South Africa, Zambia, and the UK (in May).  You can help support us in that matter here.
