Finished off five straight days of Dividing Lines (9 total hours) with a meandering discussion of conditionalism in response to a video Chris Date posted a while back responding to my comments about Bart Ehrman. That took me to Irenaeus at one point, which accidentally led me off into Sophia and the demiurge and Gnosticism—but I found my way back eventually. Quite the wandering discussion I must admit! On Monday we will be joined by none other than Mylo Hatzenbuhler, so you won’t want to miss that one!
Started off with a visit from the “Jazzy Segovia of South Africa,” my Christian brother Sebastian Goldwain. Seb lives just outside Durban, and we’ve been able to get together a few times when I’ve been down there. He is a guitar virtuoso, a real talent, and he joined us for the first 45 minutes to talk music, the lock down, and the state of the church in South Africa. You can find Seb’s music all over (iTunes, etc.), and you can support him here. Then we talked about how Facebook is going to help us all to know the “truth,” and how Orwell should possibly be considered for canonization. Then we moved back to Leighton Flowers’ attempt to turn Clement of Rome into a modern say “Provisionist.” You will actually hear Flowers stating that Clement was teaching that God “chooses” those who love Him first, and saying this is more in line with the “Provisionist” perspective. I can’t make this stuff up. And yes, we intend to set a new record tomorrow by doing our FIFTH Dividing Line in a row!
Another Mega edition of the DL today (what are we going to do IF we ever get let out of jail?) marking five and a half hours worth so far this week alone! We are single-handedly attempting to get the economy going on our own! Started off with four great phone calls on a bunch of good topics, then briefly chuckled over Rod Dreher’s article sorta defending Doug Wilson, and then dove back into church history in responding to yet another Leighton Flowers video, this time looking at Clement of Rome. Don’t forget that tomorrow we will be joined by Seb Goldswain, so make sure to join us live!
Started off reminiscing about our LDS outreach from long ago, looking at my old copies of the Triple Combination. Then we gave background on the great martyr bishop Cyprian, and read his entire epistle to the Christians imprisoned in the mines, a truly challenging work. Then we returned to listening to the 2018 interview by Leighton Flower of Ken Wilson. Two full hours!
Started off with reading through the entire Epistle to Diognetus (~135 AD), then going back and making direct commentary on the text as it relates to the unique theory promoted by Dr. Ken Wilson and promoted by Dr. Leighton Flowers. We dove pretty deep into the text and found that the author of the epistle had a very strongly apostolic doctrine. Then we switched gears and analyzed Doctrine and Covenants 114 from the LDS Scriptures as an example of a false prophecy of Joseph Smith, Jr. And hour and 45 minutes in length today. Enjoy! We intend to be back tomorrow!
