Humanzees, Jordan Peterson, Parallel Gospels, and Open Phones

Spent most of the start of the show looking at a video from Jordan Peterson and interacting with the concepts of suffering and human purpose in his lectures.  Dr. Peterson has been great in exposing the fundamental flaws and simple irrationality of many of the left’s pet projects today, and we can be very thankful for that, but we cannot use that as an excuse to not point out that the best a Jungian evolutionary worldview can produce (consistently) is a form of Pelagianism, a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” moralism that lacks the key ingredients provided by full gospel proclamation.  We then moved on a brief discussion about Ehrman and historical standards, and then took a number of calls on a variety of topics.

Vines/McDowell Dialogue, Encouraging Podcast, Calls on Today’s Jumbo Edition of the Dividing Line

Started off with a few miscellaneous items, including a brief review of the Matthew Vines/Sean McDowell dialogue from a few weeks ago, a little reading on Basilides the early church gnostic heretic and his views, and then I played some portions from the Ex Nihilo podcast that the Hardings posted as an encouragement to me (which was much appreciated).  Then we went to the phones for a wide variety of calls on numerous topics including one call from a former Mormon about the Garden of Gethsemane, one on “proportional atonement,” and one on Islam and the New Testament.  At the beginning and end of the program I mentioned my upcoming trip via London (or Scotland) to South Africa and Zambia, and our need to raise funds to cover the costs. You can help us by donating to the travel fund here.

Open Phones on the Dividing Line!

Did a little church history (the Renaissance) and then went to the phones, taking calls on Lutheran baptismal regeneration, Jesus’ words about the day of judgment, grieving and evangelism, hyperdispensationalism, Titus 1:6, the longer ending of Mark, regeneration in the OT, Isaiah’s judgment oracle, and early christian writers.  Whew!  1:45 makes it an almost mega jumbo edition, I guess!

What Justin Martyr Actually Said, Transmission of the Text, Open Phones

Discussed Justin Martyr’s words in reference to Malachi 1:11 as found in his Dialogue with Trypho (in reference to a call from Tuesday), and then went over a textual critical issue relating to partial manuscripts.  Then we opened the phones and, as normal, covered a ton of topics, with a lot on the Trinity and the relationship of Father, Son and Spirit.

Open Lines on the Dividing Line

Did about twenty minutes on Jan Hus and the background of the Reformation, and then went to the phones for the first time in a long time.  A ton of questions on a wide, wide range of topics, such as the INC, Roman Catholicism, textual criticism, etc., finishing with a nearly 25 minute conversation with “Joe” who is flirting with Romanism.
