Heading home late tonight (actually, early in the morning, at least AZ time, on the ol' red-eye flight) from here in Honolulu after a most enjoyable time with Shane Sowers and the folks at Central Baptist Church. Did a Q&A session last evening on a wildly wide variety of topics after having spoken on Islam, the Challenge of Homosexuality, Galatians 1 and the Gospel, and the reliability of the New Testament scriptures. Pastor Sowers has discussed some exciting possibilities for the future, and I hope the Lord opens those doors.As a result I will be getting into Phoenix around 8am Tuesday, so doing a DL straight from the airport would probably not be overly beneficial for anyone, including myself. So we will try to shift the schedule by a day, doing Wednesday and Friday, probably doing Wednesday at the afternoon time, and Friday at the morning time. Will confirm on Twitter and Facebook.
I have also added a few items to the Ministry Resource List, which has been empty for a few days (many thanks again to those who keep an eye on that list) that would be of great benefit especially with the intense travel season I have ahead.

Well, this looks like fun! Of course, I know it is all just a cover. Pat Abendroth is currently training 12 hours a day to ensure that at the right time he will be able to look back at me, like Armstrong did to Ullrich on l'Alpe d'Huez in 2001, and then rocket away, leaving me gasping for breath. I know Pat too well. Of course, there really aren't any mountains like l'Alpe d'Huez in the Omaha area, so it may be the old school "stick in the spokes" move, probably picked up from Pat's brother Mike. Whatever it is, I better be ready! I will be checking the brake cables of the rental bike, examining the tires closely, all that stuff. You never can tell with the Abendroth brothers, you know.

I mentioned a song on today's DL that is rather "old" by today's standards, but I think it was written before its time. It's message is so relevant today, so vitally important, I tracked down two versions of it. The first is from the man who made it famous, Steve Green, ironically singing it at the North Phoenix Baptist Church, where I was a member from 1978 to 1989 (this performance was in 1991). In fact, my dear wife and I sang a duet at the very spot Steve Green is standing on June 23, 1982, the Wednesday night before our wedding! Given the fact that I'm pretty busy at seminary (trying to get out of here), I don't always look forward to going to chapel. But since I'm a student, and on staff, and I'm the man behind the curtain recording chapels, I know if I'm not present it's noticed.Today was one of those days that I'm so glad I sat under the preaching of the Word. I met Christ in the preaching of the word. He was was preached, He was proclaim, He was lifted high.
He was proclaimed by a man who has been around Presbyterian circles for quite some time: Tom Ellis. Pastor Ellis is retired at this point, but students at GPTS have the privilege of having him hang around our halls.
Give his sermon (on Colossians 1) a listen. I wanted to stand up and shout Amen; actually I believe I (along with many others) did, and I believe you will also.

If I Were a Conference Going Guy

OK, sure, I go to conferences...when I'm speaking at them. Other that that, I'm a homebody. Give me my routine and I'll stick with it. But if I were near this one, I'd love to hear what will be said---in fact, since I am not nearby, I will hope for quickly released recordings! But for those who are able to make it, sounds like it will be a very interesting and important time. Here's the website. Of course, I have always encouraged support of CSNTM, whose mission is simply vital and central to the future of Christian apologetics.

ALERT! DEBATE IN CHARLOTTE CANCELLED

Much to my disappointment tonight's debate at Southern Evangelical Seminary has been cancelled due to treacherous conditions resulting from a blizzard that blew into Charlotte around 5pm. The temperature is dropping rapidly, and many of the roads around Southern Evangelical are subject to black ice conditions. Please do not head for Southern Evangelical this evening! We fully intend to reschedule these events for the future---hopefully when "global warming" will preclude a white out snow storm in Charlotte!Update: Though I am very disappointed (I think this is the first time I've had a weather cancellation of an event like this), I have to bow to the Lord's will (He is sovereign over the clouds and the wind and the snow!) and recognize the wisdom in canceling, for it would be a real shame if we had accidents or even fatalities after the debate due to the drop in temperate and icing of the roads around Southern Evangelical Seminary as the night settles in and the temperatures plummet. The folks at SES are intent upon rescheduling this, and maybe with a little more time we can expand out the encounter so that it will be better than it would have been! I hope so. I really enjoyed my time both at RTS Charlotte and at SES, and hope to be back in the future!
