The Dividing Line, June 11

06/19/2013 - James Swan

Dr. White discussed recent upcoming trips to Germany and South Africa; Timothy George's continued ecumenical attitude toward Roman Catholicism by a recent article in Christianity Today about Pope Francis. His compromise is hard to understand, because Timothy George is not ignorant of church history and historical theology. Dr. White also discussed an article at the "Gay Voices" section at the Huffington Post blog; continued his analysis of Michael Brown's treatment of Romans 9; and continued reviewing Yusuf Ismail's arguments in his debate with William Lane Craig.

Last Thursday on the Dividing Line

06/10/2013 - James White

I haven't a clue what we did on the DL last Thursday other than "we finished Brian's call and took a bunch of calls ourselves." Oh, I remember the last one was one of those "what did you mean in this contextless article from 25 years ago" situations that always frustrates me. But anyway, I think the calls were good anyway! Here's the program.

Today on the Dividing Line

06/04/2013 - James White

Started off playing clips from the April, 2005 appearance of a faux-jihadi before the US Marines, aka, Ergun Caner, as seen in the videos posted below. No amount of deceit on Caner's part is going to cleanse the net of his lies, and since we had never reviewed that particular presentation, it was very easy to find "misstatement" after misstatement, which, in any logical world, translates to "lie after lie." Then we moved back to the Calvinist Call In show with Michael Brown. I really thought it would take only a few minutes to play Brian's call but, instead, it not only took up the last half of the program, I did not even finish the entire call! Will finish it up next time, probably Thursday. Here's the program.

Another Jumbo DL

05/30/2013 - James White

Started off with a review of this article from MRM that I found very interesting, then moved to two clips James Swan provided to me from Tim Staples, transitioning from that into a further response to the Calvinist Call In day with Michael Brown, and then finally moving back to the Yusuf Ismail debate with William Lane Craig (along with some pre-emptive comments on his debate with Mike Licona as well). Here's the program.

A Double Radio Free Dividing Line!

05/28/2013 - James White

Yes indeed, a first...a jumbo DL including a Radio Free Geneva segment and a Radio Free Damascus segment! Started off, though, throwing Rich a curve---skipping the intro music and just making some comments on the Catholic Answers "no, you didn't force us to make that debate available" silliness. Then a few words on the Pope and redemption, and then we launched into Radio Free Geneva, where I started responding to my friend Michael Brown's comments on his radio program last week, The Line of Fire. Michael had a "Calvinist Call In Day," where...most of the callers were not Calvinists! But Michael asked a lot of questions of the Reformed position, and you know me! I love to respond to questions like that! So we started reviewing the program.
Went a little over half an hour on that, then switched gears to Radio Free Damascus, where I began a review of the William Lane Craig v. Yusuf Ismail debate from 2010 in South Africa. I'm doing this to help prepare for my own debate with Yusuf Ismail in October (see the banner ad above and please help me get there!). I am also doing it to help Mr. Ismail prepare as well! I hope he will listen and will benefit from the interaction. Here's the program.

A Heavy Duty Jumbo DL

05/23/2013 - James White

Well, you won't be laughing your way through today's 90 minute DL, that's for sure. Started off with the jihadi attack in London---and I think some folks will not be happy with where I ended up on that one, challenging us to think about our own hearts in light of those events. But then we moved from that into the Pope's "everyone has been redeemed by the blood of Christ, even atheists, who can do good" homily, and from that into Tyler McNabb's swimming the Tiber (just in time for the "which Pope are you going to believe" festival over there, it seems). Then for the last 25 minutes we reviewed Rachel Held Evans' recent blog post responding to John Piper, a wild-eyed straw-man burning party that is truly breathtaking. Some pretty weighty topics, to be sure! Here's the program.

Today on the Dividing Line: Justin Lee Debate Report and Much More

05/21/2013 - James White

On the program today we started off with a brief report on the events this weekend up at Reformation Montana and the nature of the debate/discussion with Justin Lee (the audio should be available today or tomorrow in our online store). Then I discussed the comments of someone who uses the moniker "Descriptive Grace" who, though he has clearly not read my book on the Qur'an, left a comment at TurretinFan's blog accusing it of being filled with inaccuracies and attacks on Christians because "that's how Jimmy rolls." I wrote to this individual and invited them to call in to back up their accusations, but, of course, we did not receive a phone call. Mentioned our continuing need for funds for the debates in South Africa with Yusuf Ismail and Adnan Rashid (click here!), and then reviewed this amazing "sermon" by a "bishoptrix" wherein she demonstrated that what the Scriptures actually meant to their author is, of course, irrelevant to her. Then we addressed, briefly, Scott Alt's catapulting into the realm of utter absurdity with this blog article wherein he demonstrates that "reason and truthfulness is not relevant in the defense of Mother Rome." Then we discussed some changes in the new 2013 edition of the LDS Scriptures relating to the Book of Abraham, and took one phone call on "prevenient grace."

Here's the program.

The Two Humanities in Romans 5, and Ergun Caner's Self-Proclaimed Innocence

05/07/2013 - James White

Today on a jumbo length Dividing Line I started off asking for your help to get me to London and South Africa in late September or early October. If you would like to help me get to London for a debate on Roman Catholicism, and then to South Africa for numerous opportunities of teaching, lecturing, but most importantly, to debate Yusuf Ismail, a well known Islamic apologist, click here.

Then I moved on to an explanation of Romans 5:12-19 in light of those who deny such doctrines as federal headship, original sin, etc. It is a challenging passage, and I hope the discussion is helpful for folks.

Finally, we spent the last fifty minutes of the program responding to Ergun Caner's proclamation of his complete innocence and how anyone who has concluded he has lied about his past (as the documentation thoroughly proves) is either a hyper-Calvinist (nothing like a new false definition of that phrase!) or a Muslim! Sorry for all your non-Reformed folks who were offended by Caner's long string of documented falsehoods---you are now a hyper Calvinist or a Muslim!

Here's the program.
