Open Phones on the Third Dividing Line of Coronavirus Week #1

Answered a few questions from listeners on the last show at the start (just realized I forgot to answer one that I will make a note of!) and then went straight to the phones with an amazingly wide variety of calls and topics…a little something for everyone! One call was on Hebrews 3:16 and why it differs between the KJV and the NASB, another was on Genesis 15 and the covenant (went long on that one), another on covenant children, and the last one was on conditionalism/annihilationism. Hope you are blessed and encouraged. At least I can guarantee you if you spend 100 minutes listening to this you will learn a whole lot more than if you spend the same time watching a Hallmark Christmas special!

Open Phones on the Dividing Line

I wish there was a way for me to easily make notation of all the topics when we do open phones, but alas, I have not mastered that skill. So we talked about Mormonism and textual criticism and inerrancy and even a call about the Christian view of medical intervention for someone who is truly (genetically) intersexed! Also had a long call about resources on church history. So, a little something for everyone on today’s program!

Critical Theory in the Church, the “Transient Text,” and Open Phones

Discussed a pastor who asked a couple to apologize for theoretical ancestral racism (killed the church plant), looked a bit at Robert Truelove’s opening chapter on “the Transient text,” and then took phone calls on a wide variety of topics, including the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.  Just over an hour in length.  And don’t forget, we will be doing a Monday edition of the Dividing Line since I will be traveling back to lovely Colorado on Tuesday.

1 Timothy 2, Men and Women in the Church, then a Full Review of Shapiro/Craig

Spent the first half an hour or so looking at 1 Timothy 2 and the relationship of men and women in leadership roles in the church.  Then we talked a bit about Jeff Durbin’s encounter with Andy Stanley that took place just this morning (the recordings will be posted May 30 (I would have typed 5/30 but it was recorded in London so it would be written 30/5 for them!).  Then we moved into the Ben Shapiro interview of William Lane Craig for the last 45 minutes of the program, discussing apologetics and theology and approach.  Enjoy!

Drawing the Lines: Matt Walsh, Serene Jones, Ron Underwood

Did a live DL from London (Westminster) today via Zoom (worked really well!) discussing how we “draw the lines,” using three examples to provide us with some perspective for this challenging discussion.  We looked at Matt Walsh, Roman Catholic, who was interviewed on the CrossPolitic program last week.  Then we looked at Serene Jones, head of Union Theological Seminary, and comments she made in a recent NYT article.  Then we looked at comments made directly to me and about me by Ron Underwood, a Denver area resident who, I think, would find John Calvin insufficiently Calvinistic.  How do we know what is definitional of the faith?  What about inconsistencies?  Traditions?  Are Arminians all lost and going to hell?  Are Calvinists going to hell if they are not sufficiently hard-nosed about it?  What about Rome?  Lots of things to think about today from London!
