Started out with a discussion of the “labyrinth” in the theology of John Calvin, a heart-felt plea to hear Calvin’s warning to not go beyond Scripture and to honor God in humbly accepting the limitation of divine revelation. Then we took some great calls and also listened to some clips from John Martignoni, a Roman Catholic apologist.

Started off looking at a few odd comments made in the textual arena since last week, then moved on to two clips from Jimmy Akin, one on prayer to the dead, the other on predestination and election, and another “I think the Greek says” error from Mr. Akin. Then we looked at a quote from Greg Koukl’s new book, Tactics.

I was very thankful that Robert called to discuss his position that the TR is the pure version of the New Testament, and his view that the Westminster Confession of Faith requires us to believe this. It is one thing when I discuss the topic, it is another to listen to an exchange. Very useful.

I was thinking we might be able to get to the topic of the romantic view of the TR held by many TR’s (Truly Reformed folks), but my interaction with Joel McDurmon went the whole hour. Started with some discussion about the text of the New Testament again, took a call, and then, at the break, Darrin, the atheist I talked a bit about a few weeks ago, who had written to William Lane Craig, called in. We went about ten minutes long so we could talk.

First DL back from the conference, debate, and cruise. Great to be home! Went over the debate again, played a couple other clips, and gave some background/before the debate information as well.

Did a Skype DL from the ship yesterday, playing eight clips from the Ehrman debate and commenting on them. The quality isn’t what you’ll get from the mp3s, of course, but very useful anyway. More on the Tuesday DL back in Phoenix!

Started out with a clip from Patrick Madrid attempting to get around the presence of non-Roman Catholic teachings in patristic sources, and then finished up listening to the Infidel Guy and Bart Ehrman.

It should not be overly surprising to anyone that given the Ehrman debate is a week from tomorrow that the topic would be…New Testament textual issues! So we continued listening to the Infidel Guy/Ehrman program, this time getting into where the train jumped the tracks, i.e., where the Infidel Guy discovered Ehrman, unlike his other heroes, actually believes Jesus existed!

Focused (after an initial phone call) on the Infidel Guy/Bart Ehrman program. I confess, I am so focused on this I could hardly let Ehrman say three words before stopping and commenting. But a good warm up for the debate! We will continue next week with the same topic.

On today’s Dividing Line we began with a further refutation of the constantly repeated falsehood on the part of Rome’s defenders concerning the “33,000 Protestant denominations” claim. We invited Tim Staples to call, but alas, he didn’t. Then we began reviewing Bart Ehrman’s appearance on The Infidel Guy’s webcast.

I began today addressing Hebrews 2:9 and following, demonstrating the a-contextual, eisegetical use of the text by Arminians. I then addressed question #79 on William Lane Craig’s website which mentions my comments on Romans 9 and John 6:65. Then we took a number of calls on textual critical issues before returning, briefly, to listening to the Covenanter’s Call radio program

We did take one call on the meaning of arsenokoites, but other than that we focused back on The Covenanter’s Call radio program and its “review” of The King James Only Controversy.

I love when I come up with a title that requires you to listen to figure it out!

Pressed forward with our review and response to the King James Only presentation we began on Tuesday, this time getting into the background of the Textus Receptus and the basic circularity of the arguments used in this particular radio program. Also took two useful calls as well.
