Today on the DL we did “Crossan 101,” an introduction, mainly in his own words, to the thought of John Dominic Crossan. Using clips from previous debates I sought to explain the presuppositions upon which he functions, and how our debate in August is going to be just a tad bit on the challenging side. Here’s the program.

Played the very odd section of a radio program from Detroit where Norman Geisler accused the Reformed of holding to “theological racism” and that we (the Reformed) went “berserk” in response to Chosen But Free, which, we likewise learned, was the first attack upon our beliefs by a “major scholar.” Went from there to a quick review of John Calvin

Started off with a fuller discussion of the Calvin/Servetus affair, and then took a call from England on “probability arguments” in reference to the existence of God.

We finished looking at the eleven Calvinist objections answered in the appendix of Olson’s new book. I noted that I will try to work his book on Arminian theology into my reading/listening/riding schedule over the next few weeks, mainly because I found his attempts to explain God’s relationship to time and the events in time highly problematic.
