Did a live program from Tucson today via Skype, touching a bit on some of the reactions on the race issue from last time, discussing Thanksgiving a little, and then spending most of the time on a recent FB article promoting Ecclesiastical Textism and more reasons why I find this tradition so very dangerous to Christian apologetics. We plan on doing the next program on Monday.
Three topics on the program today; for the first 15 minutes or so a quick rejoinder to Jory Micah and her “El Shaddai means ‘one with many breasts'” tweet, then about half an hour in response to Spencer Toy’s article on crossexamined.org, “An Open Question for Presuppositionalists.” Then we got back for the last 45 minutes to our study of sola scriptura. We are now able, in the next program, to finally start working through Karlo Broussard’s comments on Catholic Answers Live.
James started off today commenting on the sudden death of a young woman, a mother of seven, from Apologia church. He asks for prayer for not only Apologia but specifically for the family. Then he plays a clip from a recent Reasonable Faith podcast regarding Molinism. Finally the fuller portion of Russell Moore’s interview with Andy Stanley where Andy reads a letter from a lady who now considers herself to be “a part of” Stanley’s church. The lady is an atheist.
Covered a WIDE range of topics today. Started off expressing our deep condolences to Tony Bartolucci and his family in the death of his daughter Giana. Then we discussed the debate we will be doing tomorrow at 4pm with representatives of the Hebrew Israelite movement. Moved from there to a discussion of Jeremiah 34:16 and Romans 13:9 and King James Onlyism. Then we discussed the Pope escaping his handlers again and proclaiming live-in cohabitations valid marriages, and finally spent a good half an hour or more on the “Eternal Functional Subordination” controversy, spending some time reading from Reymond’s Systematic Theology as well. A wide variety of topics, to be sure!
I mentioned some links I was going to include to K. Scott Oliphint’s discussions of the assets of the Son. They are found here and here.
Started off today with a couple of Twitter questions (including one on Eastern Orthodoxy), then covered Springsteen’s view of transgender warriors as “freedom fighters,” the Pope’s “studied ambiguity” in his new statement, and toward the end of the hour I responded to BlackCalvinist’s piece accusing me of…well, all sorts of things, actually.
