Spent the first half of the program looking at the centrality of thanksgiving as a Christian virtue, attitude, and action, and then looked briefly at a recent convert story, and then a tweet on the perpetual virginity of Mary that led to a whole discussion of how traditions develop and why we must be able to examine them by Scripture.
Responded to a brief clip of Dr. Frank Turek talking with Leighton Flowers about Calvinists and evangelism, and then read an article on Pope Francis telling everyone to “go to Thomas.” This led to a lengthy discussion of further developments in the Thomistic Downgrade amongst the Reformed. An hour and 15 minutes.
Looked at some claims about Aquinas by Norm Geisler, including a quick look at John 13:19, and then started to respond to the second in the series from Baptist Dogmatics regarding Matthew 24:36. We have no way of knowing what we will be doing for the next few days program wise, but we snuck one in today, looking closely at the infamous Marian prayer going around the net (one I was addressing in the early 1990s). Then we looked at Scott Swain’s comments on divine simplicity and James 1:5.
Only went an hour today but covered a number of topics including some statements by various “progressive” ministers, a passing dismissal of presuppositionalism that said more than its author intended, and finally a quick look at Aquinas on John 10:27-30.
Started off with a fun story about being Official Theologian for Skillet, then we had to get serious. Looked at John 14:28 for a few minutes, and then had to start responding to the Credo article featuring Dr. VanDrunen. Paused that to work through Aquinas’ commentary on Romans 4:6-8 as an illustration. More to come!
Well, our first live stream on Rumble, which, honestly, surprised me, but hey—I just flap my jaws, Rich does the tech stuff. So explained a little about what happened yesterday, then went into the key issues found today in the New Scholasticism movement and the comments being made about Scriptural sufficiency, authority, tradition, etc. Truly important stuff!
We did a nearly two hour long program today on the issue of hermeneutics, exegesis, tradition, and the current movement in Reformed circles toward the embracing of “the Great Tradition,” “Reformed Thomism,” and “Christian Platonism.” I think this is one of the most important programs we have ever done, and I pray the Lord will bless it to your edification.
