I started off playing a portion of President Obama’s inaugural comments, focusing upon his promotion of homosexuality and the profaning of the divine institution of marriage. We when took a call from Jane up in the northwest asking how we can “respect authority” when that authority stands inalterably opposed to God’s ways. We took two other calls, one on an
My study on John 14:6 turned into a bit of a sermon today, and since some commented that it helped them, I decided to share it with our blog readers: Then, before the Lord’s Supper, my fellow elder Don Fry spoke on Isaiah 66:2, a tremendous text!
…disgusting (and blasphemous as well). Can you IMAGINE what would happen if they used an Islamic concept, say, such as the Mir’aj (Muhammad’s visit to heaven), in such a context? The Middle East would erupt in violence and mayhem. But, since it is a Christian concept, well—who cares? Newsweek, dead as a print title, proves it is as bigoted against
Today TurretinFan joined me as we spent the entire hour reviewing, and responding to, this article by Scott Alt on the topic of sola scriptura. Those who are particularly involved in defending the sufficiency of Scripture against Rome’s constant attacks upon it may find the exchange useful. And don’t forget the WayBack Machine, streaming Dividing Lines from 1998 onward 24/7!
Spent the first 3/4 of the program on current developments primarily related to the use of homosexuality as a cultural bludgeon to silence Christians—focusing on the Giglio debacle from last week, and the Steve Chalke abandonment of biblical morality and ethics as well. Then we spent the last 15 minutes on some comments made by Ergun and Emir Caner in
When you’ve been away for a while, topics add up! So, we went for a full two hours today. Started off with some shorter discussions of a recent Bart Ehrman insult tossed my direction (based upon lies by someone named M.L.), then visited the newly revived Caner Scandal as Ergun and Emir teamed up to appear on the John Ankerberg
Monday we snuck one last Dividing Line in, an episode of Radio Free Damascus, responding to the statements of Khalil Meek in his debate with Jay Smith. We will return to a fairly regular schedule for the DL next week. And don’t forget the WayBack Machine, streaming Dividing Lines from 1998 onward 24/7! You can listen on the Flash Player
Here we thought we wouldn’t be able to do any DLs next week, but, having listened to a debate on my ride this morning, there is much to discuss! So, we will be having a special Radio Free Damascus Monday, 10am my time, noon EST! Join us then!
Seems lots of folks were off of their regular schedules today, as we didn’t get much in the way of audience participation, but I still covered a few items of interest, including the Pope’s recent truthful statements against the abomination of “gay marriage,” and then we returned to the long lost Ehrman/Wallace debate in the second half of the program.
Heard this hadith (I think it was the first time it appears in Bukhari) while on a ride this morning (thankfully, about ten minutes later, while turning around, I heard a cry for help, and found a man who had fallen into the AZ canal and could not get out! Providential timing!), and could not help but memorize the reference
Thoughts on Isaiah 9, hopefully edifying and encouraging at this time of year.
Briefly addressed the continuing evidence that the folks at The Deen Show aren’t overly concerned about actually doing serious dawa, and then took a lot of calls on, well, a lot of topics! Wide ranging program, or, if I was trying to sell you on listening, “something for everyone!” And don’t forget the WayBack Machine, streaming Dividing Lines from 1998
As most of you know, Zakir Naik is a wildly popular Islamic speaker in the mode of Ahmed Deedat. Unfortunately, Naik knows better than to debate those who can demonstrate his errors. Which is why he remains so popular, it seems! But he cannot hide his many falsehoods. David Wood and Sam Shamoun expose his arguments against the historical reality
Snuck a quick Dividing Line in today, starting with a brief review of some comments I made on Sunday from Luke 13. Then we took a call on learning Greek, and went back to our review of some comments from Sami Zaatari in his debate with David Wood, all interspersed with, shall we say, rather random commentary from yours truly.
I hesitate to call this a Bible Study. It was more a sermon, I suppose—but here are my thoughts not so much on the explosion of evil in Connecticut on Friday, but on how we, as Christians, must resist the temptation to think like the world about such things. I hope it is helpful to all.
Started off following up on the Bart Ehrman/Newsweek article (I had been on the Janet Mefferd Show this afternoon on the same topic), responded to some claims from Sami Zaatari from a recent debate with David Wood, and took a couple of calls, one on sanctification and one on Hebrews 6 and the perfection of Christ as Savior. And don’t
I guess I forgot to blog last Thursday’s DL (and no one even mentioned it!). We continued our examination of the Chris Green/Paul Williams debate, as I recall. Today we covered a wide variety of topics at the start, and then focused in on a particular section of a new book by Jay Michaelson, God vs. Gay, that illustrates many
It was right at three years ago we started the Ministry Resource List, and it has been one of the most encouraging things for me personally, let me assure you. Some folks just like being “hands on” and this is a way for those folks to be able to help support what we do in a very practical way. My
For Robert who called yesterday and asked about Jehovah’s Witnesses, monty over in the UK tracked down these videos of my presentations back in March at Central Baptist in Honolulu. Hope this helps!
Thankfully, those are three different topics! Started off with some comments on Paul “He Threw a Greek New Testament at Me!” Williams, and then took two calls, both of which went over 15 minutes in length, the first on John 3:16 (and 2 Timothy 2:12ff), the second on how to explain the beliefs of the Watchtower Society.
But I can tell you the last 45 minutes was dedicated to finishing off Paul Williams’ opening statement (finally). The 45 minutes before that allowed me to empty out my “DL Materials” bookmark folder—all sorts of incredible stuff about how quickly Western culture is embracing rebellion and depravity. A study in Christian worldview application and defense, to be sure.
I did not intend to spend pretty much the entire hour finishing up our response to Jason Stellman, but I did. TurretinFan did not join me, as I really did not think it would take as long as it did. But, we provided nearly four hours worth of response—a response Jason Stellman says he is not even going to listen
You decide! But, even while I was uploading this, MuslimByChoice uploaded another video along the very same lines, but this time posting even MORE of my comments, making a strong, strong contrast between Adnan Rashid’s very surface level commentary and the full discussion I provide. You tell me…doesn’t this advance the theory that MuslimByChoice is trying to make the Muslim
It has been quite some time since we last delved into our Hebrews series, and I finally got back to it this past Lord’s Day. I hope these are useful to the brethren!
Radio Free Geneva: Winford Claiborne and the Church of Christ on “Calvinism”
James White, , The Dividing LineOnly got about seven minutes into the presentation of this talk on Free Will from Church of Christ minister Winford Claiborne, but I think most folks will agree—that was far enough! Lots of discussion of the nature of God’s decree and what “unconditional election” actually means. Hope it is helpful to those who are in dialogue with folks who would
I get lots of promotional e-mails from various companies from whom I’ve ordered materials, computer programs, etc. A few weeks ago I saw something from Logos that caught my eye. I have a huge Logos library. In fact, once I upgraded to Logos 5 (I guess I should be more specific…I was upgraded through the generosity of someone else)
So, I have taken up rowing again, something I enjoyed doing back about five years ago. In 2007 I completed the Concept2 Holiday Rowing Challenge, rowing more than 200,000m (i.e., 200 km, approximately 122 miles) between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. So I am committed to doing that again this year. But—I am a cyclist who rows (not a rower who
